Fine lines don’t need another layer.

You like an even complexion, but some lines seem more noticeable once your makeup is on? Before changing your whole routine, look at how you prepare your skin and apply your makeup. Five small changes can make a difference to the finish.
Prepare your skin without layering too many products
Makeup sits on your skin as it is that day. If it feels tight or has dry patches, going straight to complexion makeup can leave a less even result. After gentle cleansing, apply your usual moisturiser, suited to your skin. In the morning, keep your sun protection too.
Let your skincare settle before applying makeup: your skin should feel comfortable, without excess product sliding under your fingers. Adding several textures to prepare it better is not always necessary.

Pick up less than you think you need
To cover a little redness, it is tempting to load the applicator, then spread that amount over your whole face. Yet each area does not need the same coverage. A thick layer can make makeup more visible, especially around creases.
Pick up a small amount. Start where you actually want to even out your skin, then use what remains on nearby areas. You can always add a touch locally.

Press gently rather than rubbing
The skin around your nose, mouth and eyes moves throughout the day. Repeated rubbing can shift makeup that is already in place and leave uneven edges.
With a clean applicator, use light pressing motions. Keep the layer thin near creases and check the result with your face relaxed. Smile too: makeup should work with movement, not just when you stand still in front of a mirror.

Powder only where you need it
Powder can help soften shine or set an area. It does not have to cover your entire face automatically. On dry areas or places with plenty of product already, another texture can make the makeup look heavier.
If you use powder, take a small amount and target shiny areas, such as the sides of your nose. Before adding it near fine lines, check whether that area actually needs it.

Blend the existing layer before adding more
By the end of the day, a little build-up in a crease does not necessarily mean you need to redo your base. Adding another layer there can simply make it thicker.
With a clean finger or clean applicator, gently soften the excess without pulling your skin. Then check whether anything still needs correcting. If so, add a very light touch only to that spot.

A natural finish leaves room for expression.
The aim is not to erase every line, but to find the amount, technique and finish you feel good in. Try just one of these changes tomorrow morning and see what suits you.
